To Know Where
We Are Going,
We Have to Know
From
Where We Came.
.
In 1931, Lake Village opened the doors to the Gatewood Memorial Library.  George C. Gatewood had purchased the property from the Lake Village Baptist Church and deeded it to the county for use as a public library.  Shortly after WWII, the building was closed due to the lack of funds.  In 1959, the library was once again opened, with Mrs. E.P. McGehee, Jr. as librarian.  There was new construction and the library was re-dedicated on
March 1, 1963.
By 1994, the community recognized the need for more services and joined with the Southeast Arkansas Regional System.  With overwhelming public support, a new addition was built in 1996, doubling the size of the building.
Today Lake Village proudly embraces a welcoming community center where people come to
Read, Research, and Relax.
