How do I ...add a new phone line to my computer?

This is the answer to the question...how do I add a phone line to my computer? Call your telephone company and request an additional line for your home or office. Have the phone company install it as close to your computer as possible. Make a note of the new number just for your records. But as far as the computer is concerned, the number does not matter. After the phone line installation is complete, just unplug the line that is going to the wall now from the computer, and plug it in the new wall jack. That's it. You do not need to reset any settings inside your computer. It will dial out as usually using the new line.

To get the fastest possible speed, do not add any other phones or other telephone devices to this line.

Where can I find ...information on where everything is?

This is the answer to the question... where can I find information on where everything is on the Internet? Remember when you first moved to the town you live in now? Or maybe that vacation town you finally got to go to. What was the first thing you did to get to know the town? You drove around to see what you could see. Noticing things you wanted to make sure you went back to. You do the same on the Internet. Using your Bookmarks or Favorites to tag places you want to go back to. Start out with the search program built in to your World Wide Web Browser and go "WebSurfing"! One of the most popular Search programs is Yahoo!

Others I prefer are

Why doesn't ...the Internet provide maps of its services?

This is the answer to the question.. why doesn't the Internet provide maps of its services like other online services. American Online, CompuServe, Prodigy and others are all organized, structured businesses. Formed as a business. They are like cities in the World. The Internet is the World. All these service are included in the Internet. You can access most of their services right from the Internet. People that are new to the Internet usually choose one of the online services because of their structured choices. But are just like any other regular ISP, (Internet Service Provider), they provide a ramp onto the Internet.

Their are reports that these online services slow down your Internet speed. Makes sense, since you are going through a extra portal to access the Internet.

With ISP's, you are just using them as an online ramp for the Internet. Much like an Interstate ramp.

The Internet is a network of thousands of computers tied together from all over the world, making up a global network. So, the Internet is the World!

Who is ... the owner of the Internet?

This is the answer to the question... who is the owner of the Internet. YOU are! The Internet was formed by our government years ago for military reasons. Your families tax dollars down through the generations paid for the Internet. It has just recently became popular with the graphical interfaces programs made available by companies like Netscape and Microsoft.

What is ... difference between 56K, ISDN, 28.8 Modems?

This is the answer to the question...what is the difference between 56K, ISDN, 28.8, 33.3 Modems? 28.8 and 33.3 (speeds) Modems are the most widely used means of access to the Internet  in the world. You are probable one of the millions connected to the Internet right now using one of these modems. They work on regular telephone (analog) lines that we make our everyday telephone calls on.

The 56K modems allow you to double your speed from the 28.8 or 33.6 modem.

ISDN modems or adapters, as they are sometimes called, are high speed modems that require a specially installed telephone (digital) wire. You local telephone company must install the special wire and your local Internet Service provider must provide the ISDN service also. There are very expensive monthly cost involved. Time will tell if this technology will come to the mainstream of home Internet Service.

DSL - Is fast becoming the connection of choice. You will need to go to the web site of your telephone company, (local) and see if DSL is available in your area.

SATELLITE CONNECTION - Also is available anywhere! This will likely be the only solution for the most rural areas   http://pegasus100.pegsattv.com/

When is ... the Internet going to get faster?

This answers the question...When is the Internet going to get faster? Your local Internet Service Provider is constantly making changes to enhance your speed to its computers. Your computer can access the Internet faster by making sure you got the fastest computer you can afford and running at top performance. Some areas have telephone line problems. If you think your transmission should be faster after checking with several of your friends about there connection. Call your local telephone company as ask them to do a line check on the telephone your computer is connected to.

I have found, in almost all rural areas, phone line problems that can be corrected by the phone co. Just give them a call. The number is on your bill, or you can find it in the phone book.
